Books That Might Be Useful

"For the Love of Sam" is a book written by foster parents Edie Newton and Eugene Organ. It is a story of their love for a child they helped transition from their home to adoption. They also created an on-line book as a template for other Foster Parents across the country to use to write their own story for children in care experiencing the same transition.

For more information or to access the online template, check this out

There are a few books we've come across at the office that might be helpful for talking to children about foster care. These include:

-NEW   "Finding the Right Spot (When Kids Can't Live With Their Parents"
by Janice Levy

-"Maybe Days: A book for children in foster care
by Jennifer Wilgocki and Marcia Kahn Wright

-"Murphy's Three Homes: A story for children in foster care"
by Jan Levinson Gilman

There is a good book for talking to children who have a parent(s) with alcohol addiction:

-"Wishes and Worries: Coping with a parent who drinks too much alcohol"
Centre for Addiction and Mental Health (CAMH)

A good resource for talking to kids about diversity and acceptance:

-"It's Okay to Be Different"
by Todd Parr

-NEW  "Mommy, Mama and ME"
by Leslea Newman

-NEW   "A Tale of Two Daddies"
by Vanita Oelschlager
